We study eat, sleep, tailgate, and...then
repeat, right? That's the consensus. And with the overload of work that many of
us receive, I don’t blame you. In the midst of our busy schedules, it’s
often easy to forget to do one important thing: exercise.
At school’s it’s such a commitment, dropping
your work to trek to the dingy CCRB for a “mediocre” workout.
But this year, it’s different. Ann Arbor has
introduced many ways to compel students to exercise. And that’s why I’m
blogging, hoping to provide you with some exercise secrets and convincing you
that giving up that small resource of time is worth the great benefits
associated (Chapter 2 Value Presentation, Angell).
For my first blog, I’m focusing on Ann Arbor’s
new classes: Orange Theory, Pure Barre, and Title Boxing.
At Orange Theory, the instructors blast music,
providing us with motivating instructions to quicken our mile, better our
stamina and strengthen our core. Many UM students flock here to enjoy the
difficult yet rewarding experience with their friends (Do I hear high
experiential value?) (Chapter 2 Value Presentation, Angell). And what’s best:
You’ll get the first TWO classes free. Just ask! From then on, you can purchase
money-saving packages. Should you want to attend additional classes, you can
pay for just one more class at the discounted price you’d received in your
package!
Pure Barre and Title Boxing are quite different,
yet equally rewarding. For $99 this month at Pure Barre, you'll obtain access to
unlimited classes. Title is also a great place to become a member. While one
might characterize Title as solely a boxing class, the first 15min are cardio,
and the last 15min are core. It’s an all-in-one and the first time is free!
A workout a day keeps the doctor away, right? So go ahead and try the new AA classes to find your work out motivation.

Here's a picture of a few of my friends and I at the Title Boxing studio in Ann Arbor.

I can definitely relate to your blog topic- I focused on exercise for mine as well. Since I am such a workout addict, I am always looking for new workout places because I simply cannot go to the gym 4 days in a row! I recently tried Pure Barre this past week and loved it! I did not think the class was too pricey (23$), however I think having a student discount would attract a greater market segment. The studio provided high hedonic value (Babins/Harris 29). It provided social value because I was able to share the experience with my friends, similarly to you with Kick Boxing! Also, there was great experiential value as well. The instructor was extremely engaging and the studio was very relaxing (just what I needed). I cannot wait to read more of your posts!

Before I begin discussing about the content of your blog, I have to applaud you for your witty title reference to the "Verb" commercials that aired on Nickelodeon during the early 2000's. I don't know if any one else found that amusing, but it definitely grabbed my attention. Although I am a student-athlete and have workouts/practices throughout the week, I am able to see how these gyms optimize your allotted workout time through short duration/ high intensity training. The busy class schedule, studying, and other school-related commitments act as situational influences when a student is trying to find time to exercise (Babin/Harris, 27), but these gyms all provide the opportunity to get in a quality workout in a small time frame. Furthermore, I feel that the gyms you describe all operate with the similar marketing strategy of appealing to consumers who enjoy exercising at an affordable rate and want to try something new like boxing (Babin/Harris, 30). Having a workout led by experienced instructors, coupled with the fact that you're exercising with your friends, leads me to believe that the results from working out at these gyms are significantly greater than the ones that would take place over the same duration of time by working out at the CCRB.

Hi Kelly! I really enjoyed reading your blog on different work out classes around Ann Arbor. I couldn't agree more with you on the experiential value one can get from attending a class at Title Boxing. The owner is actually my best friends uncle and I had the opportunity to work for them my freshmen and sophomore years of college. The hedonic value (Babins/Harris, 29) at all of these locations is great for anyone looking to get a killer work out in an hour. One place I would recommend talking about in future blogs (if you write another on fitness facilities around Ann Arbor) would be Blue Lion Fitness on S. Maple. I worked there over the winter/summer and would be more than happy to answer any questions you have to help you out! Great job!
